Disabled Individuals
In Colombia, more than 2,600,000 people (6.4% of the population) have some type of disability. Each of these individuals face barriers that prevent their participation in society, which is reflected in low-levels of education, limited technical and professional training, lack of employment opportunities, and restrictions in access to social services. This situation results in both a cause and effect of poverty.
|
In Colombia, more than 3,700,000 people (9% of the population) are more than 60 years old, a statistic that continues to increase. Our society associates the term elderly with dependence, illness, and loss of productivity. However, from our perspective of personal rights and social inclusion, it is possible for elderly adults to maintain their independence, autonomy, and to participate actively in society. |
Through Our Programs We Promote
Inclusive Education:
We seek to facilitate access and to reduce school attrition for disabled students in the education system.
Our investment focuses on initiatives that support training the educational community (teachers, parents, peers, and administrators), the management of support services and materials, and in the general promotion of quality sustainable educational activities that respect the rights of disabled individuals and address their unique educational needs.
Labor Inclusion And Productivity
We foster employment creation for and entrepreneurship among disabled individuals and their families through our strategic support of high impact alliances with public and private entities and the commitment of the business sector.
Initiatives For Elderly Adults
With the goal of improving the well-being of elderly adults, we support projects that enhance the quality of services they receive and increase attention to their basic needs.
Institutional Capacity Building
We seek to structure and strengthen the management, technical, and networking capabilities of the organizations that provide services to disabled individuals and elderly adults through a training and consulting process which is executed in alliance with high caliber Colombian universities. In this way, we strive to guarantee the provision of relevant, coordinated, and quality services that promote social inclusion.
• Network Building
We attempt to identify and to develop the processes and tools that facilitate coordinated and organized efforts of like-minded organizations through the use of partnership development training enhanced by technology and communication tools. In this way, we support the integration and coordination of the services offered which facilitates the efficient search for and access to these services by the users.
• Inclusive Human Development
Our goal is to strengthen the capacities of the disabled and elderly communities so that they can actively participate in the development of policies and activities regarding their rights and privileges.
In the same way, we attempt to generate spaces for social inclusion and participation in recreational, cultural, and political activities by means of investing in projects which support the development and formation of participatory spaces and the strengthening of social networks, amongst other things.
• Public Advocacy:
We promote the generation of technical materials, including strategic studies and investigations, which support the creation and implementation of policies that benefit our target population. We also participate in discussions related to the themes of disability, aging, and the elderly.
